There is absolutely no truth in it at all, in the UK we have R32 GTR & GTS, R33 GTS & GTR, R34 GTT and GTR and R35. All of which have at least one turbo and are legal.
Originally there were just 80 UK specification R34 GT-R’s sold by us brand new and this is 1 of only 3 in yellow! The last owner had it for 17 years since 2002 until we recently acquired it for our GT-R heritage collection. What a special car!
