Is all terrain tires good for sand?
An all-terrain tire in the sand does adequately as long as you’re airing down to increase flotation, but in side-to-side testing of identically sized tires on identically sized wheels installed on the same vehicle, we’ve found the more aggressive tires—as long as pressures are lowered as much as possible without bead
Are bigger tires better for sand?
The taller profile tyre is better only because it may allow lower pressures to be run. Larger overall diameter is helpful in sand. A larger tyre has a flatter interface with the surface and so may help the sand behave more like a solid.

Tire pressure of 20 PSI is recommended for most beach conditions, but if the sand is really soft, lower it accordingly. Make sure you reinflate your tires once you get back on the road.
